Boston Public Schools Internet Safety Events:

Many Boston Public schools have been holding special Internet safety events for parents, students and teachers.  Here are some examples of some past events:

April 12, 2007
The Kilmer held an Internet safety presentation for parents as a part of an open house.  The topics covered were online predators and social networking sites.  The facilitator of the event was Technology Support Teacher Elaine McCabe.

April 11, 2007
The Holland School held an Internet safety presentation for parents and students as a part of their “Game Night” at the school.  The school partnered with the Comcast Corporation, which helped to sponsor the evening.  McGruff the Crime Dog made an appearance and posed for pictures with parents and their children.

March 23, 2007
The Community Academy held a staff professional development on the iSAFE curriculum.  The staff was taken through the first iSAFE training module about online personal safety.  The presentation was facilitated by Technology Support Teacher Alex Wan.

March 6, 2007
The parent council at the Quincy Upper School held an internet safety presentation for parents and students.  The presentation featured Assistant District Attorney Christopher Kelly, who heads up the child abuse task force for the district attorney’s office.  Mr. Kelly answered questions from parents and students about Internet safety.

The Higginson School held a staff professional development on the iSAFE curriculum.  Teachers learned about Internet safety topics such as online personal safety, predator identification, cybersecurity, and cyberbullying.  The presentation was facilitated by Technology Support Teacher Kathy Trainor.

February 27, 2007
The Carter School held a staff professional development on the topic of online personal safety and privacy.  Teachers learned about identity theft, and strategies on how to prevent it from happening and what to do if it does happen.  They also received an introduction to the iSAFE curriculum and website.  The presentation was facilitated by Technology Support Teacher Dana Romanzcyk.

December 16, 2006
The Channing integrated Internet safety education as a part of their open house.  They distributed Internet safety brochures, showed iSAFE videos and handed out Internet safety information to over 200 parents and students.  The Internet safety presentation was put together by Technology Support Teacher D. McDonald.
